BTS is a seven-member group formed in 2013 by Big Hit Entertainment, which then was a small, unknown agency in South Korea. Singing primarily in Korean and Japanese, with some English lyrics in their songs, BTS is known for their self-produced, socially conscious music; intricate artistic concepts; and complex choreography. In their five-year career, the group slowly but surely worked their way to the top of the Korean music scene and now enjoys massive success in almost every part of the globe, the most noteworthy of which is their crossover into the US market.

 

         Their fans, known as ARMY, are also recognised for their enthusiastic support and diverse membership, and the group often talks candidly over social media to share snippets of their lives and offer support to their fans struggling with everyday challenges. This powerful fan base, along with the group’s distinct sound and alluring personalities, has propelled BTS to worldwide stardom.

 

          In 2017, they became the first Korean group to perform at the American Music Awards, and this May, they are slated to perform at the Billboard Music Awards. They have sold over 1.6 million copies of their September 2017 mini-album, “Love Yourself: Her,” and received multiple grand prize awards, including Artist of the Year and Album of the Year, from various Korean music award ceremonies. Their new full-length album, “Love Yourself: Tear,” is due out on May 18.

 

          The group is also known for their charity work. They are the global partners of UNICEF in the “Love Myself” campaign to end violence against children.

 

          BTS would not be the thriving group they are today without the contribution of all seven members: RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook.

          BTS has come far from being an underdog group at a small company to the global superstars they are today, and they are still growing. Their passion, perseverance, and sincerity, along with their humility, is what drives their success. There are no limits to how far the group, hand in hand with ARMY, can go.
